Blogging COVID-19 Writing

Blogging in the Time of Covid-19

Maybe, there is never a good time to start blogging again. Definitely not now. Not when it is Spring, we haven’t been tackled by humidity.  In North Carolina, the roses bloom. The azaleas burst into bright pinks before turning a hollow brown and wilting. I brave the yellow pollen and head outside. Most afternoons, I sit on my front porch–book, iced down Dr. Pepper (don’t at me about the dangers of soda; believe me, I already know). Then around happy hour, I switch to a beer or a glass of wine. The evenings are cooler, and there is nothing better than watching the sun drop behind the treeline.

All of this 2020 Spring looks normal. But it isn’t.

I haven’t left my house. There is no where to go.

Schools closed. I haven’t been to my classroom in almost a month.

We all know the term social distancing.

So many Zoom meetings.

Everyone has become a medical professional on Facebook.

Let’s not forget everyone is now a full-time homeschool teacher, but didn’t every parent already think that they could do a better job teaching than their children’s teachers? All right, shine on, parents, shine on.

ALL of those MEMES!

Nothing is really normal.

But if you might be like me(proud INFJ), you have probably been okay for a week or two. I need my alone time and quiet, but we are heading into our fourth week of not seeing people, our people. Friends, co-workers, Sunday School class,  And y’all, even the introverts are not okay.

So of course, this might not be a good time for blogging again, but even with all the waiting and crazy, we’ve been forced to slow down and see the good in all this mess…

Reading more books, physical books for fun

More front porch sitting

Dusting off the piano keys, scales and Mozart and Billy Joel concerts for just the family

Being okay with staying in pajamas and admitting this shit is hard

So maybe, blogging in the time of COVID-19 isn’t the best idea, but it is the only time I have right now. And that’s good.
